background

Charles-LeMoyne Hospital, emergency unit

Extension of the 38-stretcher emergency unit.

This two-level project takes place on the basement and main floor, an area of the hospital delineated by the existing blocs B and C, and by rue Saint-Charles. The total raw area of the extension and restructuring comprises 6 875m2. The extension includes the expansion of the main floor emergency unit, while the equipment room, drop-off zones and loading docks will be located in the basement. This extension allows for the erecting of two floors to house laboratories on Level 1 and the surgical unit on Level 2, and a mechanical room is foreseen for Level 3. The existing buildings are set 3m higher than Saint-Charles and Taschereau boulevards. This slope poses a significant constraint on the implementation of the extension and its geometry, and has therefore become the determining factor delineating the limits of the side and rear boundaries of the extension, the position of the emergency entrances, ambulance and delivery areas. The extension is at the core of a complex development process, as it evolved in tandem with the creation of CICM, the integration of a 25 KV electrical room, the design of a pathology department on the roof of the existing emergency unit, the development of amenities on additional levels and the construction of multi-level parking. The project will take place in one phase, but will necessitate a series of steps, cascading spaces and temporary loading docks to ensure the building continues to operate smoothly during the work.
